Engineering Quality?How can you measure the quality of a website? Part of this relates back to style, whether it projects the image you want to create. However, part of this is just whether it is correctly written and contains bugs.Standards compliancy.There is an international consortium that defines the standards that code running on the web should follow. They have a free tool on the web that checks whether any website actually follows these standards. Anyone can validate anyone elses website! Click on validator.w3.org You can then enter any web address in - and it tells you whether the website meets standards or whether it has errors. Good companies have the right disciplines in place to produce error free code. Enter the websites addresses from the portfolios of who you are thinking of doing business with into this validator and see if they have errors.Why does this matter to you?If a website is error free and meets standards then any new browsers coming out should display the site correctly. If a website is not error free and does not meet standards then anything could happen.Our process?We do not deliver sites until they are W3C validated to be error free and we check they work on a long list of browsers; Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. Some web design companies more or less insist on a maintenance contract - as new browser versions come out, or even just new browser support updates - your website could stop working. If code is error free this is unlikely to happen.
